All Kannadigas are celebrating Suvarna Karnataka- the state's Golden Jubilee Year of unification of their motherland-Karnataka. On November 1,1956 the then President Rajendra Prasad came from Delhi to the Bangalore Palace for the historic inaguration. He pushed a button and a silhouette map of the new Mysore state was lit up to the cheers of thousands of voices. Singer-Composer P. KalingaRao then sang Huyilagola Narayana Rao's unification inspiring song with a small correction to mark the greatness of the occasion-"Udayavaayitu Namma Cheluva Kannada Nadu"(Our Beautiful Kannada Land has Arisen). Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar, till then the Rajpramukh of Mysore, was sworn in as Governor of the enlarged Kannada-speaking state. The area integrating 22 Kannada speaking areas was called Karnataka only from 1973.
