SUVARNA KARNATAKA!

All Kannadigas are celebrating Suvarna Karnataka- the state's Golden Jubilee Year of unification of their motherland-Karnataka.

On November 1,1956 the then President Rajendra Prasad came from Delhi to the Bangalore Palace for the historic inaguration. He pushed a button and a silhouette map of the new Mysore state was lit up to the cheers of thousands of voices.

Singer-Composer P. KalingaRao then sang Huyilagola Narayana Rao's unification inspiring song with a small correction to mark the greatness of the occasion-"Udayavaayitu Namma Cheluva Kannada Nadu"(Our Beautiful Kannada Land has Arisen). Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar, till then the Rajpramukh of Mysore, was sworn in as Governor of the enlarged Kannada-speaking state. The area integrating 22 Kannada speaking areas was called Karnataka only from 1973.

Our town Sidlaghatta also celebrated Suvarna Kannada Rajyotsava with pride and prestige. some sneak pics of this occasion is here.
