Stag Beetles are moderately large to large, flattened, heavy, brown or black beetles. Antennae elbowed with clubs consisting of three or four plates. Males have large, sometimes antler – like jaws; those of female similar but smaller. They are nocturnal, found in woods, on sandy beaches, in towns where they hide by day beneath logs and stumps.
