Abstract:Shaivism was prominennt in Bidar district as proved by inscriptions and sculptural remains whose antiquity goes back to the 8th century.The remains found at Basavakalyan taluka indicate the influence of the Kalamukhas and Pashupatas. Similar remains are found at Umapura, Narayanapur, Hallibetta, Mirkal , Muchalamba.TThe records speak of the servants in the temples including the players of various instruments and also mentions many acharyas looking after temples as well as names of some shivasharanas are mentioned.
